Con estos datos, cualquier empresario se hubiese visto obligado a cerrar su persiana por resultar una actividad deficitaria.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">De hecho, el acuario de Getxo naci\u00f3 como iniciativa privada en 2004 con el nombre \u00abAbra Aquarium\u00bb pero sus gestores tuvieron que cerrar el negocio en 2005 porque las 65.000 visitas que recib\u00edan al a\u00f1o no eran suficientes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Fue en mayo del 2006 cuando el Ayuntamiento de Getxo decidi\u00f3 comprarlo por un mill\u00f3n de euros. A partir de entonces se llamar\u00eda \u00abGetxo Aquarium\u00bb. Su mantenimiento cuesta 270.000 euros anualmente y pese a seguir siendo deficitario, la Diputaci\u00f3n de Vizcaya y el ayuntamiento de Getxo acordaron mantenerlo abierto como m\u00ednimo hasta el 2014 pero con posibilidad de prolongar su apertura hasta 2016.
